Allen Samuels: A Conceptual Design For A Braille Reader
Stamps Emeritus Professor and Dean Allen Samuels has modeled a conceptual device for people with vision impairments who may not be able to read Braille. If they wish to read a Braille document or book, the proposed hand-held device would be moved over the Braille and would automatically translate the Braille symbols into a voice. A language chip would be inserted into a side slot enabling the device to speak in any language. The objective is to put forth a concept and possible product design in hope of attracting a collaboration that could result in a functioning and actual product for people with vision impairments.
