COVID-19 + Operational Updates from the Stamps School
In light of the University of Michigan's response to COVID-19, some critical operational changes will be made at the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design.
Updated 3/23/2020:
Art & Architecture Building Closure
The Art & Architecture building will be closed in accordance with President Schlissel’s recent response to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order (2020-21 EO).
To comply with Governor Whitmer’s order that all Michigan businesses temporarily suspend in-person operations that are not necessary to sustain or protect life — and in recognition that Stamps faculty and staff are facilitating distance learning remotely — the Art & Architecture building (2000 Bonisteel Blvd) will be temporarily closed until the executive order is lifted. This building closure will go into effect starting tomorrow, Tuesday March 24 at 3 pm.
The Art & Architecture Building will be open during the following times:
- Monday, March 23: open until 10 pm
- Tuesday, March 24: open 7 am-3 pm
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to practice caution and safe social distancing of 6 feet as you enter the building to retrieve your items.
After 3 pm on March 24, it is our expectation that all will evacuate the building: M-Card access to the building will be turned off. Students, faculty, and staff will not have access to the building. Stamps employees who do not meet the U-M criteria as “critical employees” should not report to the building during this time. Those with remote work options in-place should continue to work from home.
Virtual Studio Coordinator Assistance
Stamps studio coordinators are making themselves available virtually to assist you in your work. Studio coordinators will be available through email at [email protected] and through Canvas at "Stamps Studios." Coordinators are available to help students with course work, materials questions, software help and more at a moments notice. The coordinators will be monitoring Chat on the Canvas site 10am-3pm Monday through Friday. Think online tech support for your work. Even if you can’t go to the studios, the studio coordinators can still support you.
Green Road Building Closure
Green Road Studios will be closed until further notice. This is to comply with the closure of all U-M's non-critical research labs and spaces.
Stamps Gallery Closed to Public
Stamps Gallery is closed until further notice, and all scheduled in-person events and exhibitions have been canceled.
