Laurie Blume: “Chasing Dreams: Baseball & Becoming American”
Laurie Blume (BFA 1983) has designed the exhibition Chasing Dreams: Baseball & Becoming American, now on display at the Detroit Historic Museum in partnership with the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia and the Jewish Historical Society of Michigan.
The exhibit highlights ways in which our national pastime is part of the history, and ongoing story, of how immigrants and minorities of many different backgrounds — including Italians, Asians, Latinos, African-Americans, and many others — become American and feel a part of the society in which they might otherwise be on the margins. The display includes evocative images, first-person accounts, and stories, items, and objects related to Detroit’s immigrant experience.
