Lecturer Howard White Retiring

Creative business owner and longtime Stamps lecturer Howard White is retiring after a productive teaching career at the Stamps School, where he inspired students to pursue the fields of interactive design, media, and technology. 

White joined the Stamps faculty in the Fall of 2006, teaching a wide variety of courses in digital studio, time-based art, concept form and context, animation, and intro to creative practice. He describes his pride in working with students to help them in their creative practices. ​“I feel very fortunate to have spent the last sixteen years teaching at Stamps. The high quality of work my students presented and their earnest, heartfelt commitment to the process was always very fulfilling to me,” said White.

White’s focus is on studying and producing time-based media, working with the most current tools and techniques in the acquisition and manipulation of image and sound content. He is also deeply involved with sound design and music production. White has composed the original scores for many long-form documentary films and short-form experimental films. One of his most memorable projects was composing the original score for the award-winning documentary ​“A Space for Music, A Seat for Everyone: 100 Years of UMS Performances at Hill Auditorium.”

In addition to his creative work, White is the owner of OmniMedia Group, with clients that include Fortune 500 companies, local and national museums, and exhibit and design companies from around the country. White’s plans for retirement include work on a series of new rotoscope animations with original sound, collaborations with other artists, and new spoken word music compositions. 

Reflecting on the last sixteen years of being part of the Stamps community, White shared that his faculty colleagues inspired him in his work. ​“My connections and collaborations with other faculty members helped me grow immensely as an artist, teacher, and creative professional. Thank you, Stamps!”
