Stephanie Rowden: Audio Story Featured by Third Coast Audio Festival
Stamps Associate Professor Stephanie Rowden‘s long-form audio piece, Gravitation and Other Graces, was selected as a Third Coast Audio Festival “In the Spotlight” story.
Part documentary, part rumination, and part fairy tale, Gravitation is a 26-minute audio essay about the care we give and the care we receive through Stephanie’s conversations with an elderly man named Wolfgang, her interactions with his circle of caregivers, and her experiences recovering from a long-term illness.
Gravitation‘s music was developed under the direction of composer and improviser Andrew Bishop (clarinet, bass clarinet) with additional improvisations by Julian Bridges (marimba) and Dave Haughey (cello). The music recording was engineered by Jason Corey and Austin Stawowczyk in the Duderstadt Center at the University of Michigan.
