Max Shtein specializes in novel organic semiconductor physics, device design, and processing. Shtein has made key contributions in developing commercially-viable techniques for manufacturing organic light-emitting diodes, transistors and solar cells, which hold tremendous promise for efficient and cost-effective energy and lighting, among other applications. The techniques he helped to develop include organic vapor phase deposition and organic vapor jet printing.
Shtein received the Materials Research Society Graduate Student Gold Medal Award in 2001, the PRISM-Newport Award of Excellence and Leadership in Photonics and Optoelectonics in 2004, the Jon R. and Beverly S. Holt Awards for Excellence in Teaching in 2007, and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2007/8.
