Rules of the Road: Connecting Chicago to Underutilized Freeway Infrastructure Zones 2014

The existing highway was parametrically modeled to understand the existing rules that produced the current form. Alternative rules were tested that produced new infrastructure zones with adjacent buildings and urban density. The project then analyzed the combined success of these alternative iterations related to speed and density as understood through secondary criteria such as access to light, mitigation of sound, and pollution. Supported by the Taubman College of Architecture + Urban Planning Research on the City Faculty Research Grant Program. An r+d LAB project.
